Dr. Adam Formal
I specialize in high-performers, elite athletes, and people struggling to find balance in their lives. I especially love working with patients who feel like they have found success in one or more domains of life but feel like they are missing something or due to specializing that they find that they are overwhelmed by their circumstances.
Whether in person or through telehealth, our connection is what matters most. Your journey towards well-being starts here - with a NYC-based clinical psychologist licensed in NY, NJ, DC, as well as Psypact certified, serving patients in almost 40 states. Additionally, I am a Credentialed Alcohol and Substance Use Counselor (CASAC-Master Counselor).
I have served my patients in a variety of treatment settings, including psychiatric inpatient units in Mount Sinai Health System and Kings County Hospital, the Peter Krueger HIV clinic, LIU’s college counseling center, a neuropsychological service, an outpatient dual-diagnosis clinic, a psychiatric emergency room, and in private practice. These experiences have helped me to feel comfortable working with a wide variety of people presenting with a range of mental health issues.
I have also worked and volunteered with individual elite athletes as well as with Team USA. I have traveled for and consulted with sports teams representing the United States in support of their mental health.
I am passionate about re-humanizing people who are made to feel less than human. Whether you be an exhausted and or isolated high achiever struggling to find balance in life, an athlete having difficulty with the pressures of the job, or someone coping with the challenges in their life with substances, I am here for you.
Let's begin this transformative process together. Your voice matters, and Formal Therapy is here to listen.
